BSTFLEX is a muffler packing manufacturer supplying heat-resistant acoustic packing materials and fabricated packing components for OEM exhaust silencer production. We work with motorcycle exhaust manufacturers, automotive and powersports suppliers, performance exhaust brands, industrial silencer producers, distributors and replacement-parts companies that require more than a standard roll of exhaust packing.
Our manufacturing capability covers fiberglass muffler packing, stainless steel wool, ceramic fiber, basalt fiber, packing mats, bags, pillows, socks and multi-layer constructions. Packing can be developed around an existing silencer drawing, perforated core dimensions, target filling weight, required packing density or an original sample.

For production exhaust systems, specifying only "muffler packing" is rarely enough. The packing occupies a defined volume between the perforated core and silencer shell, and its construction has to suit the geometry, assembly method and exhaust environment.
A typical OEM project therefore begins with several engineering variables:
BSTFLEX uses these parameters to determine whether the project is better suited to loose fiber, continuous filament material, mat, metallic wool, a contained packing bag, tubular sock or a custom preformed construction.
OEM development starts with the exhaust silencer rather than a predetermined packing size.
| Project Input | What We Evaluate | Possible Supply Format |
|---|---|---|
| Muffler shell and core dimensions | Available annular packing volume | Cut mat, sock, bag or preform |
| Required packing weight | Installed fiber quantity and density | Pre-weighed packing component |
| Temperature and exhaust duty | Material and retention requirements | Fiberglass, metal wool, ceramic, basalt or combined structure |
| Assembly process | Installation speed and repeatability | Loose fill, wrap, pillow, bag or ready-to-install sock |
| Drawing or physical sample | Finished geometry and construction | Custom preformed muffler packing |
| Production volume | Packaging and manufacturing efficiency | Bulk supply or production-ready components |

Different exhaust systems expose the packing to different combinations of heat, vibration, pressure pulsation and gas velocity. BSTFLEX therefore supplies multiple material families rather than treating one fiber as suitable for every muffler.
Fiberglass is widely used as an acoustic filling material for motorcycle, automotive, powersports and performance exhaust silencers. It can be supplied as loose fiber, continuous fiber, texturized material, mat or fabricated packing assemblies.
For OEM production requiring controlled dimensions and cleaner handling, see our Fiberglass Muffler Packing Sock with Woven Glass Mesh Bag. The outer glass mesh contains the fiberglass filling and allows the component to be manufactured to specified dimensions and filling weight.
Stainless steel wool can be used as metallic exhaust packing or as a protective layer close to the perforated core. This is particularly relevant where high exhaust velocity, strong pulsation or fiber erosion makes packing retention an important design consideration.
Metallic wool may also be combined with fiberglass or another acoustic fiber to create a multi-layer packing system rather than relying on one material throughout the complete packing cavity.
Ceramic fiber can be considered for exhaust and industrial silencer applications where the thermal environment exceeds the practical range of conventional glass fiber materials. The required grade and construction should be selected according to the actual operating temperature and duty cycle.
Basalt fiber provides another mineral-fiber option for high-temperature acoustic and thermal packing. It can be developed in suitable textile or packing forms where the silencer specification calls for a basalt-based construction.

Material selection is only one part of an OEM packing specification. The physical form can have an equally important effect on assembly efficiency and production consistency.
| Packing Form | Production Characteristic | Typical Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Loose packing | Flexible filling quantity | Irregular cavities and manual filling |
| Continuous fiber | Controlled wrapping around the core | Motorcycle and performance silencers |
| Packing mat | Defined width and thickness | Repeatable cylindrical silencers |
| Packing pillow | Pre-contained filling | Controlled fiber weight |
| Packing bag | Cleaner material handling | OEM assembly and repacking kits |
| Packing sock | Tubular ready-to-install construction | Fast installation around perforated cores |
| Custom preform | Geometry made for a specific muffler | Repetitive OEM production |
| Multi-layer packing | Combination of acoustic and retention materials | Severe exhaust environments |
OEM muffler packing should not be specified simply as "fill the cavity tightly."
Packing density has to be considered together with the available cavity volume and fiber architecture. Packing that is too loose may distribute unevenly or move during service. Excessive compression can alter the open fiber structure used for acoustic absorption.
For production projects, BSTFLEX can manufacture packing according to controlled parameters such as:
Using controlled-weight mats, bags, pillows or socks can reduce operator-to-operator variation compared with manually estimating the amount of loose packing used in every muffler.

For an exhaust factory assembling the same silencer repeatedly, installation time becomes part of the component specification.
BSTFLEX can convert high-temperature packing materials into production-ready components. Instead of supplying only bulk raw material, the packing can be cut, formed, contained or assembled before shipment.
Depending on the project, a finished component may arrive at the customer's assembly line with its required:
This approach is particularly useful where the manufacturer wants to reduce loose-fiber handling and maintain consistent assembly from one silencer to the next.
BSTFLEX supports development projects before bulk production.
A customer can provide a 2D drawing, 3D dimensions, silencer specification, existing packing dimensions or an original physical sample. Our production team can use this information to develop a corresponding packing construction for evaluation.
For projects without a complete packing drawing, the most useful starting dimensions are:
| Required Information | Example Specification |
|---|---|
| Perforated core OD | Customer drawing or measured dimension |
| Shell ID | Internal diameter of packing chamber |
| Packing length | Effective acoustic section |
| Target packing weight | Existing specification or sample weight |
| Material | Fiberglass, stainless steel, ceramic, basalt or combination |
| Engine | 2-stroke, 4-stroke, gasoline, diesel or industrial |
| Operating condition | Temperature and duty information where available |
| Annual demand | Expected production quantity |
Not every replacement or OEM project begins with a complete technical specification.
Where an existing packing component is available, BSTFLEX can use the original sample as a development reference. Depending on the construction, relevant characteristics can include dimensions, weight, material type, fiber arrangement, retaining layer and overall assembly method.
A prototype can then be produced for customer installation and validation before the specification is transferred to regular production.

Once the construction has been approved, the specification can be converted into a repeatable production item.
Production requirements may include:
This allows BSTFLEX to operate as an OEM muffler packing supplier rather than only a source of generic replacement packing material.
For distributors, exhaust brands and aftermarket repacking-kit suppliers, the product can also be supplied in customer-specific packaging.
Private-label projects may include pre-cut muffler packing, packing bags, packing socks or complete material sets packed according to the customer's sales channel.
Packaging requirements can be developed around:
BSTFLEX supports both development quantities and recurring production requirements.
Bulk supply can be arranged for exhaust factories consuming packing material directly on their production line, while finished packing components can be supplied for manufacturers that prefer a ready-to-install solution.
Typical customers include:
Motorcycle, motocross, ATV and UTV silencers place particular demands on internal packing because the available packing volume is relatively compact while vibration, exhaust pulses and temperature can be substantial.
BSTFLEX can develop packing for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke exhaust applications according to the actual silencer construction. Depending on the design, the solution may use fiberglass alone or a composite structure incorporating stainless steel retention material near the perforated core.
For projects experiencing premature material loss, see our technical guide on why muffler packing blows out and how packing retention can be improved.
The same material-selection principles apply to larger exhaust silencers used with generators, diesel engines and industrial equipment, although dimensions, temperatures, gas flow and required material quantities can differ substantially from motorcycle exhaust systems.
BSTFLEX can supply bulk high-temperature packing materials or fabricated packing components according to the industrial silencer design. Material selection should be based on the actual thermal and mechanical operating conditions rather than assuming that a motorcycle packing specification can be transferred directly to an industrial exhaust system.

A standard replacement packing product is suitable when the buyer simply needs material for occasional repacking. OEM production creates a different set of requirements.
| Standard Replacement Supply | OEM Muffler Packing Supply |
|---|---|
| General-purpose size | Dimensions matched to silencer geometry |
| Generic material | Material selected for application conditions |
| Installer determines quantity | Controlled packing weight or density |
| Manual cutting | Pre-cut production components |
| Loose material handling | Optional bag, pillow, sock or preform |
| Standard packaging | OEM or private-label packaging |
| Replacement-oriented | Designed for repetitive manufacturing |
